Festivals
Our competition squad competes 4 times a year at local dance festivals.
Festivals of dance
We have been participating in festivals since September 2018. Festivals are local dance competitions where our students are given the opportunity to compete against dancers from other local dance schools of the same age and in the same category (ballet, tap, modern, musical theatre, contemporary).
The aim of us participating in festivals is to give our dancers who are serious about their dancing, and potentially looking at a career in the arts, the opportunity to build upon their skills and gain more experience of performing.
Commitment and participation
Whilst everyone at the school is invited to participate in festivals, together with parents and the student and in discussion with the teacher, goals and targets will be set for the dancer to ensure that they are fully prepared for learning and performing their solo dance on stage.
These targets will take an individual timescale to achieve. Once the teacher feels that the dancer is ready for competition, they will learn their solo and rehearse it in a weekly session.
It is important to us at the school that every competition candidate is able to walk onto the stage with real confidence and ‘own’ their performance, which can take some time to prepare for. Once all the goals are achieved, the children always have a great time performing.
